Team Yankee Preview – Infantry and Transports

Hello All

A few weeks ago we posted up the name of the new Flames of War period, Team Yankee, but we haven’t finished with showing some new bits. For the next month or two we will have a post about Team Yankee every Monday.

August will focus on showing the models for Team Yankee, starting today with the U.S. and Soviet infantry and their transports.

We will start with the BMP-1, the first of two Soviet transport options. Aimed with a 73 mm 2A28 Grom low pressure smoothbore short-recoil semi-automatic gun (try saying that ten times fast!). This armed transport first saw combat during the Yom Kippur War.

Next up is the second generation Soviet transport the BMP-2, designed from combat experience gained from the BMP-1 it was armed with the better 30 mm automatic cannon 2A42 9M113 Konkurs ATGM. It was introduced in the 1980’s.

Next up we have a picture of the new Soviet Infantry. If I’m seeing this right it looks like three men to a medium base and there are two bases of infantry. (On a second look I think it’s a 4 man medium base with AK47’s and a 2 man RPG base).

Now onto the Americans and the M113. First fielded in 1962 by mechanized units in Vietnam. I believe the model is the same as the Vietnam version.

Finally for this weeks update we have a US infantry stand, armed with what looks like SAW’s and a LAW missile launcher. Looks like a lot of firepower!

I hope you have enjoyed this little preview. Come back next Monday when we will look at the helicopters and planes of Team Yankee.

Thanks for reading

Ben

    1. I think your right. I think the angle played tricks on me 🙂

I have no idea yet if they are plastic, but I think the BMP's look plastis IMO,

  1. I've tried a few different times to start up Flames of War, but this really has my attention. I'll be following with great interest as these previews are shown.

  2. Arab-Israel, WW1, Vietnam, and now WW3. Still no rules for the Pacific Theater of Operations or the the United States Marine Corps during WW2? Disappointing.

    1. No the post is no longer on the FOW website fortunately. But I do remember the post which said you would get two books, the first on US marines, the second on Japanese. It was due out in December but with Great War being delayed by Berlin I think you might see if in January now. We also know from an interview with Chris from BF that the book will have two points values, Pacific Era and either MW or LW depending on when the book is set. So it's sort of it's own period but will mix with the core game so if no one plays Japanese near you and you want to use US marines you still can.
