You and whose army?
00:31:30 – Alexander Julius Arlien-Soborg Dutschke has reached out to us asking “…what units you find strong/competitive in the German roster, especially the fortress Europe book. I am thinking specifically about the strongest German unit(s) within each core task of FOW like: arty, tanks, weapon teams, recon, anti-tank guns. I think I am interested in an armored panzer grenadier list, but I would also love to hear which lists you find strong in V4 currently since I also plan on doing tournaments. I am by no means a hyper-competitive player, this is just to give me some information to navigate from when invensting in models, since I am on a student budget and would also like to be semi-competitive “
00:35:00 – Fez runs us through his list ideas, using “Hit the Beach” as the basis. Unsurprisingly, Tigers appear. We also discuss the difficulties with using Armoured Panzer Grenadiers.
00:44:00 – Lee takes the German starter as his basis for a Panzer force.
00:50:00 – Duncan sticks to brief, kind of.
An Officer Answers
01:17:30 – Willian asks “Hey y’all, I’m finding myself in an odd spot. I decided to get into TY right as lockdown began here in the states. Now, I’ve put together a decent sized force of Americans without having played a game! Thankfully a local friend of mine took the plunge with me and is building a Soviet force too. What do y’all think is the best way to start playing after Covid has settled down? Should we just throw everything at each other and learn as we go, or start with real small skirmish games? Any other things we should look out for as we start to actually play instead of just collect?”
01:35:00 – Rob asks “Years ago I got 6 Pumas and a 234 AC. With the D Day command cards I was considering using them as a company in support of a LFD; but I have a nagging voice in the back of my mind saying thats mad! Would this be a good employment of them or would they be better utilised elsewhere?”
01:38:30 – Steven appears to have missed the memo on our feeling about ETC and asks “What if this year’s ETC did not get cancelled : what 6 lists would you have put in your 6 man team?”
01:41:30 – Tony asks about “…the merits of different terrain mat surfaces? What is your preferences?” Deepcut, Battlefront and Tiny Wargames are all mentioned and linked here for convenience.
Shoot and Scoot (and hidden track!)
01:52:00 – Hussar! Its time for our Dice of War shoot and scoot.
An enjoyable episode. Really liked the segment on building an affordable army to start with. This will be an interesting segment to run with every once in a while. As a tie in the officer answers question from William about kicking off as a new gamer was also a great segment. These topics dont need to dive down into the nitty gritty of each unit etc but helping with basic builds and keeping mind towards growing in the hobby is great.
Thanks for listening and glad to hear the “you and whose army” segment was well received.
I think buying the force is one of the things that gets overlooked when offering advice on a starting army and anything that can keep a starting force competitive but sub £150 can only be a good thing.
